Counselor’s Mission Statement
The mission of the counseling department at Hunsberger Elementary School is to foster the academic, personal/social and career competence for all students. Our hope is that by helping to remove academic barriers, we will promote the idea of lifelong learning and help each student to become college and career ready.

Counselor Duties
As your school counselor, I provide a comprehensive, developmental counseling program addressing the academic, career and personal/social development of all students.  I deliver classroom guidance lessons to all grades, 4-6 times a year.  Topics include conflict resolution, bullying, empathy, diversity, and self-regulation.  I follow the American School Counseling Association standards for all lessons.  Students who may benefit from additional support receive one-on-one assistance and/or small group counseling.  Areas addressed are self-esteem, anxiety, grief, social skills, and coping strategies.

Beyond those counseling responsibilities, I handle all 504 paperwork and meetings; the Gifted and Talented testing in 2nd and 5th grades, GT referrals, implement the SHARE program to all 4th and 5th grade students, coordinate the Child Assault and Prevention program, teach the Better Safe Than Sorry classes, assist with the Multi-Tiered System of Support (MTSS) and behavioral matters, provide clothing and financial help through Operation School Bell and Holiday gifts, follow child protective services and suicide protocol, crisis intervention, and mental and physical health referrals.

My number one priority is the welfare of your child.  I work hard to cultivate relationships  and advocate for students, so they feel comfortable and safe when meeting with me.  I hold a master's degree in school counseling and maintain both Nevada and National Board Certifications.

Our students are caring, kind, and compassionate, and I do my best to see that they continue these attributes and find happiness and stability in their future.  Thank you for your support of the counseling program here at Hunsberger Elementary School.
